  • How would you distinguish between living and non-living systems
As Above, So Below Barbara St. Jean

According to a study guide shared through Cambridge University's website(1), things must meet seven criterion in order to be considered living. The standards are as follow: nutrition, respiration, movement, excretion, growth, reproduction, and sensitivity. Therefore, things that do not require sustenance, do not breath, move, excrete wastes, grow, reproduce and respond to stimuli in the environment are not considered breathing things. Therefore a cedar table is not considered living while a cedar tree would be considered living.
