Chemicals found in household products

Ø  Investigate the chemicals under your own kitchen sink, and prepare a short report on what you find
Under my kitchen sink, I found an extra Trader Joe's dish soap, a spray bottle with bleach, and another with vinegar. The Trader Joe's product has: water, sodium coco sulfate (derived from coconut and palm oil), lauramine oxide, caprylyl, myristyl, gloucoside, coco betide, denatured alcohol, penoxyethanol, glycerin, lavender oil, and tea tree leaf oil. Sulfates appear to have ill effects on your hair, but seem to be okay for washing dishes. Bleach I'm not a huge fan of, but it's good to have around. Vinegar is good for cleaning but it doesn't seem effective on grease or stains.

Ø  Are you seeing more examples of "safer" alternative to cleaning products?

Dr. Bronner's products, I love showering, but do not work as well on dishes and is too expensive to use in the laundry. Here are the ingredients of their liquid castille almond scented soap:
  • Water
  • Saponified Organic Coconut Oil*
  • Saponified Organic Palm Kernel Oil*
  • Saponified Organic Olive Oil*
  • Organic Glycerin
  • Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil
  • Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
  • Natural Almond Fragrance
  • Citric Acid
  • Tocopherol (Vit. E)
