Crows and Cognition

I lived in Seattle, Washington for nearly two years. There is a huge crow population near there, so much so that researchers at the University of Washington Bothell dedicated much effort to unlocking the habits and cognition of crows. During late summer/fall you could find thousands of crows nesting at night near the campus. One report that came out of their field research was of a couple who fed the crows intermittently. They kept hearing their door being rung, but when they went to check the door--no one was there. They finally put a camera up, only to find that the crows they fed were ringing the door bell.

Here are some other cool tales about the amazingness of crows: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/uw-professor-learns-crows-dont-forget-a-face/

  1. Crow's are awesome birds and beautiful in spirit. I think many individuals still associate crows with negative connotations, so it is nice to see the positive association of crows with cognition.
