  • Human intent as it affects health

Human intent is very important in affecting health. In recent lectures I've listened to by Heiner Fruehauf, Confucianism states that conduct plays a huge role in health. Emotions such as resentment harm the Spleen, while arrogance harms the Kidneys and Criticism harms the Lungs. According to Confucius, we must look deep into ourselves and stop our bad habits so we can resolve our health issues. While I think that  this is a very harsh view towards health, and see integrating a trauma model into looking at the psychosomatic implications of disease, this points to the relationship between how we construct ourselves and the our health. Resentment, criticism, and arrogance can only be felt when we see ourselves as separate from others or are holding onto a solid sense of self, ignoring the wealth of information that points to a more fluid relationship with the 'outside world.'
